    Redefining higher education: innovation, inclusion, and sustainable development during wartime

    This monograph presents an in-depth study of how universities are leveraging their role as key players in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It begins with the context of Ukraine, namely the impact of the war on academic potential, an analysis of a wide range of socio-economic, socio-psychological, professional and personal challenges that arose during the war. To overcome these challenges, a roadmap for systemic reforms and the development of a sustainable institutional ecosystem is proposed based on the triple helix model, which combines people-centric and infrastructural strategies. The following narrative builds on this foundation, exploring the theme of inclusiveness and accessibility in education. In particular, it examines how Ukrainian higher education institutions implemented adaptive strategies during the ongoing war to create a barrier-free environment, thus ensuring full participation of all students and pedagogical staff. The monograph then moves on to a detailed discussion of the integration of STEM education, emphasizing its vital role in national revitalization and alignment with the global sustainable development goals. This chapter shows how STEM education can be a powerful catalyst for societal transformation, equipping students with the skills they need to meet current and future challenges. In addition, the text delves into the specialized field of nanotechnology education, advocating the synergy of education, science, and values. This innovative approach reconciles technological progress with ethical standards and sustainable practice, marking it as a new paradigm for training a highly skilled and responsible professional. Ultimately, the themes are synthesized through the harmonization of institutional culture, values, university development strategies and the Sustainable Development Goals. The case study of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, which adopted the "University without walls" model during the war, shows how the introduction of core values into the university's mission can contribute to the development of a sustainable institutional ecosystem and more global motives in the development of communities and society. Overall, the monograph not only outlines the challenges Ukrainian higher education faced during the war, but also highlights innovative responses and the critical role these institutions play in promoting sustainable development. It aims to provide a roadmap for other educational institutions, demonstrating that even in times of crisis, higher education can and should be a beacon of hope and progress, a key driver in promoting sustainable development.

    Research paradigm as a value orientation for professional training of future social workers

    The article aims to reveal modern state of higher education internationalization (HEI) at global and local levels. Synthesis of conceptual approaches to studying HEI allowed to concretize the meaning of HEI at modern stage in a global and institutional levels. Renovated notion has been proposed as “complete internationalization”. It is interpreted as engagement, devotion and commitment of both all education management levels and teaching stuff to multifaceted process of intentional long-lasting infusion and integration of international dimensions with comparative constituent into all functions and missions of higher education and active designing of policies, plans, programs, strategies and approaches for promotion of internationality in higher education. Due to theoretical method of conceptual and comparative analysis of research and strategic documents and the latest scientific publications on issues of global internationalization of higher education, analysis of foreign and local experience, conceptual approaches to studying HEI were depicted modern internationalization forms at global level. Interviews initiated with heads of international affairs offices enabled us to find out HEI state at local level. Questionnaires with international students, focused on likes and dislikes concerning infrastructure, teaching methods, communication with local students, future plans helped to identify the level of students’ satisfaction and attractiveness of Sumy universities. Main priorities of stakeholders are defined. Recommendations concerning further possible development of higher education internationalization are given.

    Social Workers’ Professional Development. Canadian Experience and Opportunities for Ukraine

    The article reveals the basic principles of social workers’ professional development in Canada and identifies opportunities to use its constructive ideas in the Ukrainian practice of social work. The author analyzes the concepts of "professional development" and " social worker’s professional development". It was found that the social workers’ professional development is an important component of quality social work practice. Definitely, social workers ’professional development in Canada is the responsibility of social work professional organizations, which are divided into 2 main types: professional (government regulators at the national level, colleges and associations at the provincial and territorial levels) and educational professional organizations. The content of the main legislative documents regulating the social workers’ professional development is characterized. It was found that the basis of professional development is a program of continuous competence, which aims to promote the quality of professional activities in the field of social work and social services, as well as to encourage social workers-practitioners to constantly improve their professional skills and protect the public's right to quality services as defined in the Model Social Work Practice Act, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
