The article analyses modern psychological, linguistic, and psycholinguistic approaches to the problem of reasoning formation in senior preschool children with generalised speech impairment. Reasoning is considered as a functional and semantic type of coherent speech that reflects the unity of thinking and language and serves as an important prerequisite for successful schooling and social adaptation. The study systematises scientific views on the role of cognitive operations such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalisation, and classification in the development of reasoning skills. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of verbal thinking, internal and external speech processes, and the structural organisation of reasoning statements in children with generalised speech impairment of the third level. The analysis of contemporary research confirms the relevance of the problem and indicates the insufficient development of methodological approaches aimed at forming reasoning skills in this category of children, which determines the need for further scientific research in this area.
