Анотація
У книзі висвітлюється історія німецьких консулів, які діяли у Північному Приазов‘ї в період від заснування в регіоні представництв Пруссії та великого герцогства Мекленбург-Шверін після Східної (Кримської) війни і до закриття представництв Німецької імперії на початку Першої світової війни.
Біографії і аналіз діяльності консулів подаються в контексті взаємин приазовського регіону і його портових міст із німецькими землями і ролі німців у розвитку цього регіону. Слідуючи історіографічній традиції, автори відрізняють Північне, українське, Приазов‘я з портовими містами Бердянськом і Маріуполем від Східного, російського, з його містами-портами Таганрогом і Ростовом-на-Дону.
У різні часи під юрисдикцією німецьких консульських установ у Бердянську і Маріуполі знаходились землі на території нинішніх Запорізької, Дніпропетровської, Донецької і Луганської областей України.

The book presents the history of the German consuls carrying out their diplomatic duties in the Northern Azov region in the period from establishing diplomatic representative offices of Prussia and Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin after the Eastern (Crimean) war and to the closure of representative offices of the German Empire at the beginning of the First World War. Biographies and analysis of the consuls‘ activities are presented in the context of relations of the Northern Azov region and its port cities with the German lands, and in the context of the role of the Germans in the development of the region in question. Following the tradition of historiography, the authors distinguish the Northern (Ukrainian) Azov region with port cities of Berdyansk and Mariupol from the Eastern (Russian) Azov region with its port cities of Taganrog and Rostov-on-Don.
The geographical scope of the study, however, is not limited to the two cities above. At different times, the jurisdiction of the German consular offices in Berdyansk and Mariupol included quite extensive lands of modern Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.
