Abstract
Стаття присвячена внеску Леонарда Ейлера (1707–1783) у створення сучасної мови математичного аналізу. Розглянуто стандартизацію математичної нотації, перехід від геометричного до алгебраїчного розуміння функції, теорію нескінченних рядів і добутків, розв’язання Базельської задачі, число Ейлера та доведення його ірраціональності, уявну, формулу та тотожність Ейлера, теорію комплексного логарифма, гамма-функцію, варіаційне числення, методи розв’язання диференціальних рівнянь і вихід аналізу в механіку твердого тіла та гідродинаміку. Показано, як Ейлер перетворив математику з «науки про фігури» на універсальну «науку про функції», заклавши фундамент сучасної фізики, інженерії та обчислювальних методів.
Description
The article explores Leonhard Euler’s (1707–1783) decisive contribution to the creation of the modern language of mathematical analysis. It examines the standardization of mathematical notation, the shift from a geometric to an algebraic understanding of the function, the theory of infinite series and products, the solution of the Basel problem, the Euler’s number and the proof of its irrationality, the imaginary unit, Euler’s formula and identity, the theory of the complex logarithm, the gamma function, the calculus of variations, methods for solving differential equations, and the application of analysis to rigid-body mechanics and hydrodynamics. The paper shows how Euler transformed mathematics from a “science of figures” into a universal “science of functions,” laying the foundation for modern physics, engineering, and computational methods.
